5month check up

Little Miss Della is 5 months old. Weighing in at 14lbs. She's in the 95 percentile for height. Long and Lean. Oliver loves to make her laugh now. He'll dance around in front of her and pretend to fall down. He's a ham. A very active little ham! We spend lots of time trying to think of ways to "run" him. They are now sharing a room. Della sleeps in the crib and Oliver has a big boy bed. They are doing surprisingly well. We still get a few night time visitors in our bed, but I don't always mind. They take great naps during the hottest part of the day, so I usually get down for some sleep too. We have worked out a great little schedule, soon to be disrupted I'm sure in our attempt to drive from Florida to New Hampshire. A trek that could make for great or horrible memories for me and my mother. We'll let you know!!

Close cousins, an update and saying bye to the baby buldge

I spent a few fast days with my sister and her beautiful daughters up in New Hamphire. Teagan and Della are just weeks apart. It excites me to think about how close they might become as they grow up. Although my sister and I weren't always best friends growing up,'cause she was older and I was annoying, we're as close as they come now! It will be so great to share all these great stages the girls will go through together. I promise Kris, we'll try not to compare too much. If Teagan walks first or Della gets boobs first, which I'm pretty sure won't be an issue for either of them to worry too much about, It'll never be a competition with us. I'm just so happy to share this wonderful adventure with my best friend!
Della is doing really well, 13lbs, all smiles and cooing away. Big brother Oliver loves to snuggle and kiss her. He wants to "holdhim" all the time. He is doing really well with her. I was so worried about all the rivalry everyone warned me about. I got it pretty good, for now! I've finally had it with the baby weight. Two years and two pregnancies have wreaked havoc on my body. I've spent the better part of the past four months stuck inside nursing. Now that I have finally have my Double jogger I can get out of the house with both kids!! I can actually exercise again. Tomorrow I rejoin my friends at Strollerfit. I can't wait to get back into shape! Bye bye forever baby weight!

Now bellies be gone!

And then there was none. Teagan Marie Nyhan was born Monday April 20th. She is beautiful. A very nice mix of Kristi and Korey. So the duel is over. Now on to the growing families! Updates to follow!

Belly to Della... and one to go...

So, yesterday was a big day for Katie... I won't fill in too many details, although maybe I should since she probably won't be blogging for awhile (just a guess). Della Autumn was born yesterday afternoon and she is beautiful! So, I guess this also means that Katie's ticker is officially off the blog. Which leaves me feeling just a little sad...and happy at the same time. We're not pregnant together anymore! No one left to commiserate with... I'm the lone blogger! Although, I'm thinking that in a few weeks this blog may naturally transform into the equally neglected "Baby Blog". I'm pretty sure that the latter may be more entertaining to read. Because, come on, who really wants to hear about my cravings for cereal & soup, insane heartburn and train wreck stretchmarks when one can read about sweet, cozy babies, spit-up and sleepless nights instead. Oh, and the pictures are so much cuter!! (See image right).
So, I feel like this is actually becoming a reality now. I can't wait for our little girls to hang out together, dress up in our old recital costumes, play in the lake up at the Fader's cottage... chase (and probably torture) Oliver and be absolutely adored by Alise. Little "T" is so looking forward to all the fun she will have with Della in the future, and I can't wait to watch those memories unfold!
In the meantime... I'm feeling pretty good. Loving my Birthing from Within and Prenatal Yoga classes and really enjoying watching the baby move when Alise reads her a story (she's going to be a fantastic big sister). Today, Korey and I start to paint the nursery. I'll post some pics when it finally comes together.

Any minute now....

Katie - February 2009

Well I had my "Baby Shower" at the beach today. Thanks to my friend Gina and Loretta. It was nice and mellow just a group of some friends and my family down here in Florida. We just came out of a really cold week, but had great weather this weekend. The sunset was great. All the kids played in the sand and the adults got to chat and have drinks. No games or opening of presents (and yes there was fried chicken Lauren) Perfect! No cutsie baby stuff, just a "Good luck in the black hole that will be your life for the next few years, see you on the other side!" Party. Thanks y'all!!
So the baby should be here any day now. I'm 3 cm dilated and 70% effaced. I'm pretty sure I can't possibly get any bigger without my stomach splitting right down the middle. Sleeping is impossible, walking hurts, sitting sucks, standing is worse. So how much longer could this suck? I'm just ready. I'm sure Scott is too, he's the one suggesting these walks and all this hot spicy food. He's no fool. He's trying to get this kid out faster than I am. We can't wait to see her little face!

Sleepless in St.Pete

Katie - February 2009

38 days left, no wonder I can't sleep. My life is about to change dramatically. Having one child changes your life, yeah, but having two? You have a full blown family now. I've never been a stranger to sleepless nights. For the past two years I can count on one finger the number of nights I've slept straight through. Sleep deprivation doesn't scare me. Last night between going to the bathroom every 15 minutes, and the baby having hiccups for a good hour I paced the house. When I finally did fall asleep I woke up with the most extreme leg cramp I've ever had, my foot was stuck like a Barbie Doll's. I remember when I was pregnant with Oliver I would be up for hours the last few weeks, just up, nothing on my mind, no dishes in the sink or laundry undone. It is a good way to get you ready for the sleepless nights ahead, yeah right, if those nights were silent and calm and the air was not filled with screams of a baby and tears of a frustrated mother. I will enjoy these last few nights, even if they are restless, they will be quiet.

Third Trimester here I am!

Katie - February 2009

Ok so there is still a part of me that gets a tad offended when people ask me when I'm due. "How do they know for sure I'm pregnant?" Then all I have to do is look in a mirror and then realize too I'm walking with a severe waddle (due to chronic back pain.) Ok so maybe it's obvious.
I'll tell you one thing, Thanksgiving when your preggers is fantastic! You're all sitting there wishing you had jeans with elastic waist bands. We can let our bellys hang right out there and everyone just thinks its adorable! Man I'm gonna miss being pregnant!

It's a baby sister...

And yes, she has a name, but it's our little secret... Our littlest girl was being a bit uncooperative during our recent ultrasound and barely showed her face (no shortage of pictures of the bum area though...) This was a rare profile shot, and I definitely think she looks like a little Nyhan in this one. We did have the 3D images taken, but once again, she held up her little hand in front of her face... like father like daughter.

Alise is beyond thrilled to have a little sister! And, well, Korey, equally as excited, has turned into an emotional puddle, and he fully admits it (as tear rolls down his cheek)... Honestly, everything makes him cry! Baby clothes, commercials, figurines in stores, even his own private thoughts... Shouldn't this be me at this point? I can't help but giggle a little... I've rarely seen him this emotional and I am afraid to show him anything baby related for fear of the waterworks being turned on again and me having to control my chuckle. Overall though, I think it's pretty darn cute.

girls, girls, girls!

Well here she is. Everything at my 6 month check up went well. I can never get over the scale starting to tip. She is a girl, no question..ok, ok, bring on the pink. (Even though it makes me gag.) I loved all the boy clothes, I just can bring myself to buy anything girly. Poor child, she'll be wearing her brothers hand-me down until she can fight me on it. which happens sooner than you think. She is getting active and very big! (and so am I) I did buy her a dress today, Lauren would be so proud.

Bed Rest...

A few months ago, I was told that pregnancy compromises your immunity and that I will catch everything that crosses my path. Honestly, I rolled my eyes at this... I hadn't been sick in forever, this WOULD NOT be me. Fast forward to me sitting in bed as I type this, literally coughing all over the screen and surrounded by used tissues, soup bowls and Popsicle sticks. I have been sick in some form for 3+ weeks, feel asleep in a public place on Tuesday, out of work for 4 days now and have been in bed for 3 of those. This really sucks, I feel like I can slightly empathize with those women who are on bed rest for their pregnancies, I seriously cannot imagine doing one more day of this! I'm going a little nuts.... If I see the John & Kate plus 8 commercial again, I might... well... have to turn off the TV.

Although, on a positive note I slept in until 11 this morning, have discovered online scrabble, have had the time to update this blog, and have been exposed to deliciously awful daytime TV. I am a little more freaked out about taking medicine for relief (although my Dr said that the antibiotics I'm on are fine for me and baby)... Korey has been pretty tolerant of me... I sent him out for Cloroseptic spray at 10pm last night and he was so kind to get it for me (begrudgingly), he brought me Panara soup yesterday for lunch and made me dinner the night before (yum, soup and burned grilled cheese.. just like Mom used to make in the old days). I kid... sort of. The saddest part was not being able to put Alise to bed the other night and seeing how sad she was that our nightly ritual was interrupted. She ended up climbing into bed with me later and put her arm around me.... still my cutie pie.

On a side note... we find out this coming Tueday (11/11) what we are having, stay tuned for the news!

6 Months!

Katie - February 2009

SO I guess the reason Kristi and I aren't so great at posting anything on this shall we say desolate blog site might actually be a good thing. It means that there is not much going on with our pregnancies, and all of you that have been pregnant know that is a great thing..nothing to report! I should give you something..I'm feeling good, tired, still but good. Having some minor back issues, normal. She's kicking a lot. Mostly from 9 to 10 pm she goes nuts which is fun for me because I'm usually just watching tv and I have time to sit and feel her flip around in there, and so does Scott. I'm headed to the DR on Thursday, I can't remember if I have to drink the Orange gunk this week or not? They will check one more time with the ultrasound to make sure she's a she. She wasn't giving up the goods that easily the first time..good girl! Like I said otherwise pretty uneventful. I'll get a picture up soon I swear!!

It's a.... baby!

So, I am way too exhausted to write a real blog tonight (It might also have something to do with the fact that House and Fringe are on in a few) so I will make this quick. We had a mini ultrasound yesterday and, much like his or her older sister lately, the baby was being uncooperative. So, even though it looked like it was "Dance Party Uterus" for our active little baby on screen, we couldn't get a good shot of the goods. So we won't know the sex of the baby until November 11th when we go in for our level II ultrasound. I'm hoping all is well with our little peanut and I'll update after the 11th. Until then... a little picture for you... aww, it's smiling.

I'ts a....

Girl! I think I kinda always knew it. I could only think of girl names, I always referred to it as a she, and I'm getting a ginormous ass. ( yes bigger than before) Scott and I are very happy to add a little girl to our family. I'll get some pictures of her up as soon as I can. She looks just like Oliver did. We're not telling any names, so don't even guess, you'll find out when she comes in February!
One of each. Perfect!

Bummers

Katie - February 2009

Bitches! I WAS going to find out the sex of my unborn child today, but noooooo, someone at the OB office called out sick. So tomorrow, I'm hoping. I'm a little bummed out. So I went to Target as I often do. I bought a potty chair for Oliver. I don't think it "fits" right, all the "pieces" don't align if you hear me.
This is my life!

Bring on the elastic waist! yeh baby!

We really should rename this blog the Slacker Sisters... there really is no excuse for us going this long without updating!
So my recent update was that I had a slightly disturbing and embarrassing visit to the OB last Friday. Don't worry, I will totally spare you the details (with the exception of the heart rate which is 160)... but let me just say that first, nothing is private or your own anymore when you become pregnant. I know every woman who has had a baby knows this... but I've been trying to think of something equally as mortifying for men... and I got nothin! And don't event think about suggesting that "cough" thing... that's is not even on the same planet as comparable! Anyway, I digress, this whole experience, 9 years after my first baby, has me reconsidering a midwife. I've actually talked to several friends over the last few days who swear they couldn't have done it without them. This does not mean that I will be giving birth at home (which is what my dear husband thought when I mentioned the idea)... no, from what I have learned so far, this means that in addition to my ever-attentive husband who will be at the birth, there will also be a more knowledgeable and empathetic woman by my side, the ENTIRE time. This seems like a very comforting idea to me. Don't get me wrong, I had a fabulous nurse with Alise.. she was warm kind and knew all the right things to say (and not to say) but she left when her shift was over and I got a nurse who apparently hates pregnant women and babies (I wanted to suggest she should re-think her profession, but I don't think that would have helped me in the long run). Anyway, I'll keep you updated on my decision. For now... we have another appointment in two weeks and then a level II ultrasound on 11/11. I am having this done because of Alise's health issues when she was born. (Another story for another time, or maybe not... I don't need to revisit this)

Anyway, moving on... Those who read my other blog know that I am a big fan of (and maybe slightly obsessed with) the daily comic site http://www.toothpastefordinner.com/ . So, I will leave you with this comic which pretty much sums up one of my only pregnancy-related woes. (um, I think we can replace "sacne and crackne" with "rackne" and call it a day on this one. What?... TMI?

Live from the Baby Farm

Katie - February 2009

Kristi - April 2009

I know, I know...I was slacking! I'm just a tad busy with a crazy toddler and working two jobs now, but I still manage to take naps! And I will always choose sleep over anything. So with Oliver happily making a mess of the house I have a few minutes to update all of you who read this (mostly Lauren and maybe my mom)
So I'm at 18 weeks and feeling great! We'll be finding out the gender in just a few weeks. I'm dying to know. We're having a tough time on names and I think knowing the gender will help shove us in the right direction. I'm really slacking this time around though. Do you know I have not bought this child one single thing?! Can you believe it? Oliver had is entire life set out for him at this stage in the game. Not a single blanket, baby book,or onesie. I didn't even start reading Oliver "I'm a big brother" books yet. I think it may be my way of...I don't even know what.
(I just pulled a rock out of Oliver's mouth, in my bedroom for crying out loud! this kid will find a rock anywhere! Gheesh!)
My last Dr. appt. went really well. Heart beat was between 155 and 160, convincing my mother it is a girl. But the big news was that I hadn't gained ANY weight since my last appointment! Not a pound! So goes to show you you can live off of cereal, chocolate chips and Pop Tarts and not gain any weigh. Move over Micheal Phelps I found a new diet!
I'll put up some pictures of the bump when it starts looking like a bump and less like a beer gut. I'm starting to get those looks from people making me want to say "I'm not getting fat, I'm growing a human! What did you do today because I grew some kidneys?"
It's way too quiet.. you know what that means...Gotta run!

Belly Twin Power... Activate!

By now, most of you (that bother to read our individual blogs) know that Katie and I had a fun and busy summer, are now both with child and are approximately 7 weeks apart. Katie is due at the end of February and I am due sometime around the beginning of April (near Easter).... Specific due dates are NEVER right, so I won't bother with those details. We'll keep our tickers updated for you so that you never have to wonder how far along we actually are.
So, I wish I could say that we totally planned this whole thing, how cool would that be! But... alas, it was simply God's will. Rather than bombarding our family and friends with updates on our ever expanding girths (that sounds so sexy), we thought we would start a joint blog to keep you ever aware of all the wonderful joys of pregnancy, childbirth, babyhood, etc... Our old blogs will still be active for other random topics, but this one is solely for all things baby-bump-related.

Stay tuned... it's going to be a wild ride!
